Title: iDroid MoJo V1.0.3 Release Announcement
Post by: nickp666 on October 04, 2010, 10:08:18 PM
On behalf of the iDroid dev team, I am proud to announce the immediate availability of iDroid MoJo v1.0.3.

This release is for iPhone 2G,  iPhone 3G & iPod Touch 1G.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank these particular individuals for their consistent hard work on this release and up and coming features - This is not saying that others havent worked hard, because they have, but in particular the following individuals have gone that extra mile in the recent couple of weeks:

What is this?
This is the iDroid Project's third minor release of Android Froyo for iDevices, built from the community source code repos at http://www.github.com/iDroid-Project (http://www.github.com/iDroid-Project)

Changelog

Kernel
-----------
NOTE: A large amount of progress has been made on power management in this release, but as yet not all device drivers have suspend/resume in them & we are still lacking CPU idle/clock gating so there is still a lot of work to be done before we achieve optimum battery life.

Android
-----------

OpeniBoot
------------

Known Issues
loadibec will not load openiBoot with iOS 4.1 - Apple changed the USB protocol in recovery mode in 4.1 (We dont yet know why, but maybe we should be flattered?) as a result of this change, we are unable to load openiBoot through USB - iRecovery has the same issue at the present time. - this has not yet been properly investigated as the primary developers have been busy on userland flashing - this will negate the need for loadibec altogether
Loopback devices are presently not cleanly unmounted (as has been the case since day 1), as a result an integrity check is forced at startup slowing down boot time a little.
Power Management - A large amount of progress has been made on power management in this release, but as yet not all device drivers have suspend/resume in them & we are still lacking CPU idle/clock gating so there is still a lot of work to be done before we achieve optimum battery life.
With data enabled, the ril is causing the baseband to lock, causing issues with signal strength and recieving calls/texts until we have data properly implemented, it is recommended that you disable data altogether (ricky26 is working on this)

Reporting Issues/Requesting Features
Please remember, this is alpha quality software - there is still a lot to be done.

We have a development tracker system set up to take bug reports and feature requests which you can find at: http://dev.idroidproject.org (http://dev.idroidproject.org) - please take the time to report any issues you find there.

Please take the time to file a proper bug report, 'iDroid is slow' is not constructive, and is a waste of developers time to answer, please if you wish to raise an issue be as specific as you can, this will greatly increase the chances of your issue being resolved and reduces the workload of the developers drastically.

Getting Help
You can get help by posting in the relevant board on the forum, you can also find the developers and other users in #iphonelinux and #idroid-dev on irc.osx86.hu

Source Code/Contributing
Our source code is hosted on github: http://github.com/iDroid-Project (http://github.com/iDroid-Project)

If you are a developer with Kernel experience, C, Java or C++ skills and would like to help, feel free to speak to us on IRC in #idroid-dev, we'd be happy to help you get started.

Please honour the licences of the respective code and our Open Source ethos by sharing any changes/improvements you make to it.

A video probably will not show you much you havent already seen (assuming youve seen the previous mojo release), battery life isn't massively better at the moment, but that is constantly improving, the release signifies a big jump in progress.

LOL, I don't think that'll happen anytime soon.

But thanks to everyone that helped in this release! I'll be installing it as soon as I get home.

It works perfectly on my 3G8gb 3.1.2.
I just deleted old imgs copied the new ones, changed permissions and it booted.
Tux is gone !

Overall just seems to work better, wifi, sound, touch, typing seems a little faster. Screen actually turns off instead of just dimming. Browser works. Superuser works. Sdcard can be read.
Power menu works and phone shuts off.

Awsome job!

Well the antenna is broken on my device I always put on airplane mode so it lasts longer since no constant communication with cell provider but I think if you close all unnecessary apps before going into standby, it could last a long time. But if you mean for daily use, forget it. I can still almost see the battery draining. But when my battery dies I'll tell you total uptime, since it's a fresh install and it was full on first boot.

Yes, but the fun is in making it usable. The devs are constantly working on improving drivers, and as has been mentioned already, this release marks a huge improvement in both driver stability and features, but there are also a lot of improvements that did not make it into this release due to being close to but not entirely finished. Next release will likely have a better baseband driver and allow flashing OpeniBoot from userland (and as such, most likely also for 4.1, though I can't confirm that). That is a big step in my opinion since the 3G and 3GS use the same baseband processor! Hehe, now we just gotta figure out processor and framebuffer driver for the 3GS :P

Camera does not work... It hasn't been working ever so don't try using it until someone has coded the proper drivers for camera.

by the way, can someone tell me what is this "System UID's Inconsistent" stuff? Description as "UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable".

FYI, i can't install the new openiboot (always stucked in the oibc portion though success with loadibec) and still continue with the old version and after i downloaded mojo 1.0.3, i extract and use iphonebrowser to copy all 5 files from "idroid" folder to "private\var" and another 2 files (sd8686*.*) to "private\var\firmware".... though i'm not sure whether this will break anything but it's working now. unless the UIDs stuff and also after boot to iOS (3.1.3), always got safe mode but restart kick that away.

another thing is, how do we install apps from market... beside gapps (still haven't figure it out how to install it manually), market is not allowed as well?

forgive me if i ask stupid question.....

Sounds like your userdata image is corrupt, so you'll need to re-transfer a clean one to fix the UID issue.

MoJo releases need to be in /private/var/idroid

Google are blocking unauthorized devices from accessing market properly, there are some posts in the help boards that _MAY_ be able to help you with that.

thanks for the help, will re-copy the one. will remove the 5 files from "private/var" and copy to "proviate/var/idroid" but will it work if i'm not in the latest openiboot?

the other question i have is, am i possible to develop android apps with this iphone 2g, whether through the app inventer or the sdk?

You will need the new openiBoot to boot iDroid >= 1.0.2 (Newer releases will not boot successfully from /private/var anyway without modification) - if you are having difficulty with this I would suggest posting in the relevant help board.

It is possible to develop android apps on iDroid, but given the inherent limitations of our present builds, I suspect that it will be made more complicated than it needs to be, I would suggest (until we have it stablised) that you either use the simulator or a proper android phone - this will change in the future as our work continues, but I dont think that it is a particularly viable development platform at the moment.

Overall just seems to work better, wifi, sound, touch, typing seems a little faster. Screen actually turns off instead of just dimming. Browser works. Superuser works. Sdcard can be read.

Does the sdcard work just as is, or do you have to do that sdcard fix thing to get it working?

And great work guys, will be downloading this tonight!  :)

Just make a directory called 'sdcard' in /private/var and put your files in it :)

You can change the wallpaper from the browser (I think thats the only way you can do it at the moment - you will probably need to reload ADWLauncher when youve set the new one, so that it actually shows up)

view the picture you want to change it to, hold your finger on it till the menu pops up, set it as the wallpaper from there.

You might have to also 'respring' ADWLauncher, you can do that by launching the app drawer, pressing your iphone home button, going to adw settings and choosing restart from there.

Wow, this version is great :D Wayyy faster, although now I no longer have a convenient pocket warmer haha. One problem though, once the screen turns off for the second time I can't get it to turn back on. It just locks me out completely. Anybody else having this issue and where would I report it?

I was testing the power management (the home and sleep buttons together) and pressed shut down. It shut down but when I tried to go back to iPhone iOS kept on shutting off at the apple. The same thing happened when I used the old power management. I think the safest way to shut down is terminal. With su reboot.

Half-life this looks like a problem with your device rather than a bug. It would be prudent to create a new topic in Help forum. Remember to post details like what device, iOS, how openiboot was installed, or any other information.

I tried out this iDroid release on my iphone 3G 8 GB with iOS 4.0 and I have to say, it has purely no power management. It drains the battery even with being attached to the charger. iOS tells me, that the battery is fully charged, but if I boot into iDroid, then iDroid tells me, that my battery is at 39%. A few minutes later, even attached to the charger, it went down to 38%.

I'm not sure, what is causing this huge drainage, but I'm surely looking forward to an iDroid release with proper power management and phone support (to be able to properly call anyone, no matter if phone or mobile phone), because Android/iDroid beats iOS.

Thanks for stating the obvious.

Obvious? Sorry, then I might have mis-understood the OP's message. I thought, that the current release already has better power management compared to the first ports which went public.

Power Management with regards to sleep and actual battery levels. Ignore the battery level iDroid displays, there will be discrepancies with iOS. I was even told once that iOS's is now less accurate than iDroid. Who knows? :v

NOTE: A large amount of progress has been made on power management in this release, but as yet not all device drivers have suspend/resume in them & we are still lacking CPU idle/clock gating so there is still a lot of work to be done before we achieve optimum battery life.

I dont recall ever saying we had power management implemented, in fact far from it.

I wonder sometimes why I bother to write detailed changelogs, as it seems nobody bothers to actually read them.

I was reading the changelogs. I'm sorry, I'm native German and sometimes my english is a bit crappy.

There is only a minor fix needed before we can push it out, but time is short for the whole team at the moment, we'll get it out soon though!

Camera is not known to work. Everything is noted in the FAQ and User Manual (linked on Forum Main page).
Calls and SMS work. You just have to disable APN/Data settings (Data doesn't work anyways).
Wifi is really buggy.

hi
i have installed idroid on my iphone 2g and i want to give my impression of it. I will give some suggestions and ask some questions.
First i saw that is not good for every day use because they are bugs on some basic things and my suggestion is first to make that basic things to work good like calling messaging, battery indicator(by me it showing that is charging??), battery consuption ...etc and after that things like camera. bluetooth and other. Before iphone i had HTC Diamond and used on it android and i can say that it was much stabel than iDroid everithing was working of this basic things only battery was problem for me and it was Market app where you can download apps... and will you include it in next versions??? And my last suggestion is to change back button to be on "original" back button and not on power button, it is easier to go back.
But this is great job that you are done for now, i know that is hard to work on this, but continue good work  ;)  All the best

Only i want ask why messages wont work by me, i had turned off data connections, calling is working but i cant to open Messages app?

There is no "Back" button on the iPhone...

Anyways everything you asked is on the FAQ (link on the Forum Main Page).

As for the messaging, what do you mean you can't open messages app?

I would suggest re-installing iDroid from bootlace (You dont need to reinstall openiboot)

WIFI only work one time after boot iDroid in 2G

Testing on iPhone 2G 3.1.3 with MoJo 1.0.3, firmware extracted with Bootlace 2.1, with SSID broascast disabled:

a. When the Wi-Fi radio is ON while booting of iDroid,  this connects correctly to my  Wi-Fi network configurated,  Wi-Fi icon appears in notification bar  and I can navegate on internet. If I turn off and turn on Wi-Fi radio, its behavior is like test c.

b. With the Wi-Fi radio turned off while booting of iDroid. I turn on the Wi-Fi radio using any three switches exist, iDorid connects to my WiFi network, Wi-Fi icon appears in notification bar and  i can navegate on internet. I can do this only one time, because if I repeat this, its behavior is like in next test.

c.
- After that iDroid is booted with the Wi-Fi radio turned off or turned on
- On menu "Settings->Wi-Fi Settings".
- I turn off and turn on radio (twice or more)
- This show "scanning.." and dissapears,  but finaly not show any Wi-Fi broadcasting or connected.
- I lock the screen (power+home) or  waiting few second the black screen and then I unblock this.
- My Wi-Fi Network appears in status "Connected", but the Wi-Fi icon not is in notification bar and i can't navegate on internet

I tried the solution posted on bug #97 about DHCP problem with pid file, but this not work.

For tests I used Wi-Fi network hidden (no SSID broadcast).

I tried with open Wi-Fi network (SSID broadcasti) and this work fine.

With logcat, I found:
W/wpa_supplicant(   336): Failed to initiate AP scan.

Thanks...

A big Thank you to everyone who made this release possible!

I have a iphone 3G stuck in endless apple reboot (hardware error I think). But iDroid works!

Removing com.apple.Springboard.plist from /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/, stopped the watchdog from rebooting my idevice. This made it possible to transfer the iDroid files.

Looking forward to all new releases of openiboot, iDroid and iX !!
