Bootlace 2.0 - Install iDroid from your device itself
« on: August 05, 2010, 10:50:46 PM »
I have been working on the evolution of Bootlace, an iOS application for assisting with iDroid and OpeniBoot. Bootlace 1.0 allowed configuration of OpeniBoot's default OS, menu timeout, and 'quickbooting'.

Version 2.0 is the evolution and allows installation, upgrading and removal of iDroid from the device itself. Currently you still need to use a computer to do the initial install of OpeniBoot however.

This will install the latest iDroid, 1.0 (MoJo) currently.

Features:

  • iDroid installation and removal.
  • Dumping of multitouch firmware as part of the install.
  • QuickBoot - Allows the user to quickly reboot directly into Android or the OpeniBoot console without altering the default OpeniBoot settings.
  • OpeniBoot configuration - Set the default OS to boot, menu display timeout and auto-booting.
  • Settings backup and restore

Requirements:

  • Device: iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G and soon iPod Touch 1G
  • iOS: 3.1.2 -> 4.0.2
  • OpeniBoot: 0.1.1 (The one from the MoJo iDroid release)

Instructions:
[list type=3]
[li]Install OpeniBoot from the iDroid 1.0 MoJo package or download it separately here:
Code: [Select]
http://idroid.neonkoala.co.uk/release/openiboot/0.1.1/OpeniBoot-0.1.1-b8efc34.tar.gzUsing this guide if you don't know how:
Code: [Select]
http://www.idroidproject.org/wiki/Installing_iDroid_%28Linux%29#Install_Bootloader[/li]
[li]Add the following repository to Cydia:
Code: [Select]
http://repo.neonkoala.co.uk[/li]
[li]Install the Bootlace Beta![/li][/list]

Known Issues:
  • None!

Warning! I highly recommend you backup your NOR from openiboot and any existing iDroid installations before you run this application. Bootlace will overwrite old idroid installs if you allow it!

Update 09/08/10: 3.1.2/3.1.3 support is now included experimentally and I am now working on iPhone 2G/iPod Touch 1G support. Expect this soon if everything goes well.
Update 11/08/10: 2.0 Final is released, full support for iPhone 2G and 3G and very soon iPod Touch 1G OTA.

Please post bug reports on http://dev.idroidproject.org/projects/bootlace or contact me here or on IRC. Source available soon too, need to tidy it for GitHub :P

the icons are fine, just be happy you have this. quit complaining. its crap like this that destroyed the PSP scene, users nagging dev's. regardless what you say that is a big part of it, if you don't like it why don't you make your own damn version. till then quit bitching because you won't get anything done like that

I can't implement openiboot installation as I have said before as it's beyond my capabilities. It requires a kernel patch and reversing of the kernelcache to do so. If someone more experienced can help then that's great!

I happen to like it, if you don't then there's always Winterboard.

I have been pushing out new builds over the last couple of days and the current one, 1.99-7 is now compiled for 3.1.2 so should work on all iOS from 3.1.2 to 4.0.1. Please post any bugs you find too.

I have also fixed the multitouch dumping bug and settings refresh bug. However there appears to be a bug in regards to the settings being read correctly under iOS 3.1.3 - if anyone can confirm this that would be great. 2G users can confirm this too however no iDroid install function is currently available for 2G owners.
