Title: how to get gapps on ifroyo
Post by: yunk on July 06, 2010, 10:56:43 PM
This is how to get Gapps on froyo

google "Bugless Beast Froyo" and click the version 0.1 link and download v0.1 and extract it.
go into the system/app folder and delete launcher2 and adobe flash

you must be able to adb into you phone over wifi http://www.idroidproject.org/wiki/ADB (http://www.idroidproject.org/wiki/ADB)
put the app from the previews download into the tools folder where your adb program is.

then adb into your device and run
Code: [Select]
./adb shell
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
exit

then....

Code: [Select]
./adb push app /system/app

wait for everything to be copied over
then...

Code: [Select]
./adb shell
chmod 6755 /system/app/SetupWizard.apk
reboot

once you are back into android go through the setup and gapps should be installed.

I've seen this in multiple places, but I've never seen an explanation as to why deleting AdobeFlashPlayer.apk is necessary.
Lack of GPU support?  Is it intolerably slow or does it crash?

I am not exactly sure why i had to delete flash, but i tried it before with out deleting flash and the launcher would always crash making the phone unusable.

Make sure you're performing that step in the directory with the extracted app folder.

How about the SDCard? I'm still a noob at this stuff, but where do applications get installed to without an SDCard?

I've followed the instructions and have gapps installed. However I now seem to have two calendar apps and two clock widgets , is this normal ?

How do you mean "deleted the other calendar". Which file did you delete ?

CalendarGoogle.apk and DeskClockGoogle.apk located in system/app

P.S. Have you got sd card working? If yes, can you explain how you get it working please?, mine is not recognized...  :(  :(

Even though iDroid Froyo has no Wi-fi on2G yet, I tried to at least place the apps on my system using adb over usb, but it says I ran out of space on ym device, so it stops on LatinIME.apk  :x

Tried to download an app (Advanced Task Killer), but keeps on "Installing". Anyone else have this problem?

Glad I can test the standard Gapps already...

if you are stuck on "installing" make sure you have enough space to install the app to your phone (you are not getting a low space error)
cancel the install and try again.

Got about 20Mb free, and ATK and ADW Launcher aren't that big. Also not seeing any errors anywhere...
Maybe it defaults to installing on SD, which isn't available?

Too bad there isn't much logging available.

well, i setup ifroyo on my 3g for the second time now. i was using 1.6 and it was waay faster than 2.2 but 2.2 works mostly well and looks better, so i decided to go back.

i used a windows 7 64 bit pc to do all of this. ubuntu was giving me a royal headache. so after installing the sdk i ran the sdk update exe, got all that done. then i adb connected to the phone while it was running android with wifi on. i found that the commands were a little different for the command prompt than linux terminal

instead of "./adb" you would type "adb"

basically all on the adb wiki, it tells you what to input all the way up to mounting and pushing the files over. what also happens is that BEFORE you execute the push command, you have to dir to the "sdk/tools" folder. because this is where the apps/ folder is that you will transfer. remember to also include the "tools" entry since your adb file is in there along with the app folder so once you get to that, then you can execute the push command in windows by typing:

"adb push app /system/app"

in the wiki it says to include the "/" before the first app but the computer will not understand and think that "/" is part of the file name, so dont include it. and put a space after app before /system. i did it that way and it finally started copying. once it finishes type:

adb shell
chmod 6755 /system/app/SetupWizard.apk
reboot

BAMMM! now im stuck on the google account sign in screen! it says that it may take up to five minutes! i think its been longer though. hope this helps some newbs like me using a pc!

***BUAAAAAHHHH xo, well, i was so close. i think i have corrupted android by hard rebooting it to get out of the google setup screen. i guess its starting all over for me then :((((((

*UPDATE** ok i found these instructions for what to do during the bootup...

Welcome to iPhone
> Tap the "Android Logo"

Learn how to use your iPhone
> Tap "SKIP"

Set up your Google Account
> Tap "SKIP"

Use Google location
> Up to you and Tap "Next"

Date and time settings
> Up to you and Tap "Next"

Go setup your wifi and make sure there is an internet connection
Open up Gmail/GoogleTalk/Market
You will see the setup wizard again, complete the wizard and let it verify your account.
After that you should be able to run Market, this should fix all the G App that is in the OS.

----thanks to whoever posted the tutorial in this thread---->NAiDroid2G Installer 0.2a[Linux/Windows]

***update*** SO i re-installed ifroyo but with version 1.3-D since i read it was faster. i cant really tell. but i reinstalled gapps. now it works great!!

As i was searching for some apps in the market place i noticed some apps were not there like pandora and pdanet. I think the reason for this is since froyo has not been official released to phones except the nexus one some protected apps are not shown in the market place to phones running 2.2. does any one else seem to have this problem.

I got exactly same problem. What's more, I get error after connecting to my iPhone (it says that it is connected) when trying to use "adb shell" command: error: device offline

But now I'm trying to get rid of that problem.

Edit: YES !!! IT'S WORKING !

Can someone post a definitive list of exactly what is required, from this folder, to get just the Android Market, and the Social Network stuff?

Every time (so far) that I've installed, when I reboot, my phone seems to hang at the point where it shows "android". The shining light passes across the word, then hangs, then does it again.

And again, and again.

If there is anything in there I DON'T need to install, I'd love to take it out. This will now be the third (or fourth, lost count) time I've restored a pristine system.img, and I really just want to get the Market.

I know those two aren't needed, but those aren't the only ones that aren't needed.

iphodroid is mac only, I'm on a pc. Isn't it just the boot menu, anyway?

If you already have openiboot then just shh into you phone and take the system.img from iphodroid then you are good to go.

Yeah, I went ahead and did that, but the system is highly unstable trying to get anything done.

Also, I'm as of now, still unable to get logged in to Google, to get into the market.

I'd love to try this... if my WiFi stayed on :(.
Any suggestions, or hints on getting it running over USB?

I found;

Quote
If you're developing on Ubuntu Linux, you need to add a rules file:

   1. Login as root and create this file: /etc/udev/rules.d/50-android.rules. For Gusty/Hardy, edit the file to read:
      SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0bb4", MODE="0666"
For Dapper, edit the file to read:
      SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0bb4", MODE="0666"
   2. Now execute:
      chmod a+rx /etc/udev/rules.d/50-android.rules

But I'm on 10.04.

Any clues are greatly appreciated :).

EDIT: Managed to get it working over WiFi with a clean install of Android. Got GApps sent over, install time!

Yes it's an issue with SD card emulation.

The workaround is posted somewhere in the 2G forums.

I am getting many duplicate files (All of the examples that Skwerl posted) and am finding it very difficult to complete the last step. My terminal doesn't respond to commands quickly and sometimes my phone reboots on its own and gets stuck at the android logo. Is there any need for revisions to this guide since the official iDroid version has been released? Also I was able to get this all to work with ddFroyo2g v4 but ever since v5 and the new iDroid version I am not able to install gapps.

As a side note whenever i try to reinstall gapps i replace the system.img file with the one from the iDroid release version. Is this the correct way or should i copy everything from the iDroid folder to the /private/var folder?

Thanks for any help! I love this forum!

okay new here.  I have iphone 2g with 3.1.3.  I did the naidriod install and had no real problems.

I am trying to get the driod market installed which I am guessing is gapps.  I downloaded everything and I can connect to it via adb but I am not sure what this statement means

"you must be able to adb into you phone over wifi http://www.idroidproject.org/wiki/ADB (http://www.idroidproject.org/wiki/ADB)
put the app from the previews download into the tools folder where your adb program is."

I'm not sure what this means.  Any help would be great.  thanks.

I've tried with BBv0.4 but stuck at Android logo... First i resize2fs  the system.img then mounted the system.img and placed the .app's in APP folder.. then unmounted... scp the image to iphone, but when trying to boot Android, i got stuck at it's logo.
Any advice ?

For now i will try with BBv0.1.

EDIT:
Without any pushing any .app to Android via ADB (using original system.img) it boots fine.
After that... i've been 'playing' with system.img, tried to change size, put all .app (first tried with BB version 0.1 and then 0.4) in app folder... but when i try to boot android it wont get past the Android animation logo.
Deleted the .img of /private/var, then went to cydia to try Bootlace, installed idroid via bootlace, then Android booted fine, did ADB then push (BBv0.1) app's... reboot.. working!!

I am following the instructions carefully, using version 0.1 but the adb transfer freezes after a while... :(

I guess it's because the space gets all filled up.

In fact, when rebooting Idroid, my Iphone 3G gets stuck on a loop with the flashing Android logo....

Any suggestions, please anybody?

With BB 0.1, i had to use bootlace, installed droid with bootlace then  booted into Android, adb push apps and got it working!
You just have to delete Launcher2 and Adobe Flash in the apps folder before adb pushing apps into android.

I believe the BB v0.1 was updated with some other application we really need to get settingswizard.apk and others from original froyo 2.2. Or to get the original v0.1
What version, where from of BB v0.1 did you use?

What version, where from of BB v0.1 did you use?

I got it from http://http://androidoverdrive.com/pete/FROYO/.  Installed fine.

- only use ADB wifi
- turn off screen lock

Hi !

Yesterday I installed 1Shot R13 0.6 beta on my 3G
It's works great. Then I tried to install the gapps with the instructions from this thread.

After the 3G restart I see on the screen the Android "Button" from the "setupwizard" but nothing happens when I click on them.

Make I a mistake or is there a incompatibility with the 1Shoot version?

Thanks for help.

I dunno how it is on the 3G, but on 2G, there's not enough space on the System partition for all those APKs. Those two you deleted happen to be the two largest of all of them in that directory and makes it so they barely fit. That's my pet theory, anyway.

running iDroid 1.0 Mojo on 3G, installed using Bootlace. I've tried bugless beast v0.1, v0.2, and v0.3, all give the same results roughly.

Anyone have an idea on what apps are Google Apps themselves in the app folder? We are copying all off the apps in there, and that may be a problem. If we just need to copy 10 files that might work instead of the whole app folder. Every version of froyo I try does not work. I either cannot get the wifi to allow it connect with ifroyo, idroid kernel panics or doesnt work. iphodroid does not work either. I really wish they had some tutorial that worked on how to add the apps as the OS is kind of useless without them. I need to go to bed, I am pretty frustrated with trying everything and still being back to a non working install.

I've been successful at installing these apps, along with Advanced Task Killer, Androzip, and ROM manager installed, but like many others, numerous apps crash. When I first launched the phone, I had to use the "four corner" bypass trick on the setup screen. Since doing this, I have no way to sync to Gmail? If I go to Accounts & Sync, my only option is "Corporate." How can I get the Gmail/Google option back? I tried Factory Data Reset, but I still don't get the option.

By the way, this project is AWESOME! Thanks for all your efforts!

I've got the same problem here. Wifi is working, I can browse the web, and even download and install apps manually from androidfreeware.com. But each time I try to sign in to google in any google app (including market), after a while I get this message: 'Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server'.

If you have any idea how to fix it, please post the workaround here.

Wanted to share my experience.  First, I had the issue of not having enough space to copy all the gapps over.  I removed the SholesQuickOffice app and was able to load them over to the phone.  Then, the reboot would stick on the android logo screen.  I found if I went back into bootlace and reinstalled just the multitouch driver and the wifi driver, I could boot into android.

My issue now is the not being able to log into my google account.  After trying to launch a few apps, I think the issue is actually that there is no data connection.  Even though I'm connected to the wifi, I am not able to connect to my google account to get into the market or set up email.  I also can't load up maps or anything that requires data.

When I look at my status in Andorid, I see:

Network: AT&T
Mobile Network Type: Unknown
Baseband version: Unknown
Kernal: 2.6.32.9nickpack

I'm on an iphone 3G BTW.

Anyone have anything for me to try?

Evening all. 1st post so be gentle.  ;)

I'm having the same 'Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server' problem. From reading in this thread it has been suggested google are blocking idroid devices from accessing there servers!

There is an article that suggests that is true http://http://blog.laptopmag.com/google-augens-use-of-android-market-unauthorized

After more reading there seem to be workarounds to get google market onto these unauthorised devices. slates etc.

This website gives suggestion of the required files to manually install "Market" http://http://www.slatedroid.com/flytouch-epad/4853-how-install-android-market-manually.html

And this one below shows how to change the "Android ID" using the AndroidSDK to create a virtual device and extract the legit ID via ADB. Iam able to extract an ID, but then am unalble to re-insert back into my Idroid.
http://http://www.slatedroid.com/flytouch-epad/3763-market-app-working-flytouch-epad.html

I'm gutted i don't have the skills to make it work. I've tried to implement some of these ideas, but it leads to hangs at the android boot screen every time. Has anyone had experience of doing any of these techniques and able to point me in the right direction?

I've installed Mojo 1.02, have working sd card, can push .apk files to my idroid just fine. I've installed rings extended and now have ring and notification tones working. It would just be nice to have the whole android experience.

Any suggestions???????

Big shout out to the Devs. Superb work guys!

Thanks for the shout out!!!

Yup... Google's Servers are blocking unauthorized devices (like iDroid) from logging in.  This gives the cannot establish data connection error.

I also tried the article from Slate.  The problem is that we don't have com.google.android.gapps or whatever we should reinsert the ID into.

Hmm the best bet would be to fake the ID of the iDroid as an HTC to access the Market... but I dunno how to do that.  Changing build.prop doesn't seem to work.

Thanks Ddominator.  ;)

I am able to extract all the files required, shown in the 2nd link I posted. But as soon as i try and add them into the images i'm running it hangs on boot up.

Android must be getting the ID from somewhere. Because when you go into settings, the model number is shown as iphone3G. HOW DO WE CHANGE THIS?

Can any Devs shed light on which image contains this info and how to change it? Maybe if we can change our device name to HTC or something, it will work?

The one showing iPhone3G is in build.prop (system.img/build.prop).  We already tried spoofing that to no avail. We're testing some stuff to see if it works.  If it does, it would go into MoJo 1.0.3 (just the fix if any is included); Google Apps would be separately distributed.

I also had the "unable to establish reliable connection" problem on idroid 1.0.2 using iPhone3G.
But today I could add the google account successfully.
One of the things I did, that maybe caused it to work was creating the sdcard directory (creating /private/var/sdcard on the iPhone partition).
I hope it helps...

Sid <!-- s8-) -->8-)<!-- s8-) -->

Yes, I got a working market and the rest of the Gapps...

This is what I did:
I installed iDroid 1.0.2 using Bootlace, then followed this thread to install the Gapps.
At first I got this error saying that it cannot establish connection to use my google account.
Then I wanted to try to install some application without using the market. I tried to download an .apk file using the browser, but I always got "Download unsuccessful" so it occurred to me that maybe it's because my sdcard isn't configured. So i switched back to iOS, and created /private/var/sdcard using ssh.
Then I could download the .apk file, open it and install it (using the built-in android installer).
After that I tried again to add my google account, and it just worked.

I thought it was because of the sdcard folder, but maybe it's also because I installed some app (it was fring, btw).
Or maybe it was just good timing with google servers...

I hope it helps.

all you have to do is open up the youtube app and hit the home button and click my account then log in with the google account you want to use in all your apps and it will automatically add it to market/gmail/contacts/ect!

this bypasses the google account verification crap.

FYI: I was able to "fudge" the addition of my gmail account by firing up the YouTube app, menu -> "My Account", and logging in through there. That added the account to settings, which I was then able to activate for syncing.

However, the market is still failing; when trying to display the terms of service, it just exits out.

my market works with a little bit of googling i found out that people that actually have a droid device are were having the same issue of the market not loading the terms of service  getting an error and its just another simple fix you just have to do a factory reset and it all works nice and propper i should have put that in my original post. =]

What's interesting to me is that it seems like a lot of other folks who have problems with cellular data have this specific issue. I've noticed on my wife's G1 that whenever she hits the market, it chatters on the 3g network for a second at startup; could our lack of cellular data support be the heart of the issue?

I'm going to try and take a quick peek at Vending.apk today with baksmali (http://jf.andblogs.net/2009/06/23/its-alive/#more-134) and see if I can't figure out a cheap workaround for at least the TOS activity; I suspect there's just a preference that needs to be set to keep it from popping that up. I suspect it'll still fail miserably, but at least it'll be a different kind of failure. :)

3G8gb idroid 1.0.2 installed through Bootlace

I was having the error "can't establish connection..." when singing in market, and this helped me make progress:

adb shell into phone
rm /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
restart phone

reference: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3477 (http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3477) comment 16
it seems to be a workaround for having to do a factory reset.

now market connects and lets me accept the agreement. I can browse all  but when I install a free app it says "Starting download" and nothing else happens.

so in the mean time I just keep searching google for the .apk of the free app I want and push it with adb, I can find most apps that way.

also my gmail and youtube let me sign in and work well.

Huge props for all devs and supporters that keep this alive !

I can't get wifi to work properly. When it finally connects to my network(the router is 1m away), the second I run ./adb shell the wifi disconnects... I have tried this several times with the same result. Does it work via USB? If so, how can I do it with ADB via USB? When I plug my iPod it, it's just charging. BTW I'm trying this with MoJo 1.0.3, via Ubuntu 10.04 on VMware.
EDIT: It seems to be working now, but it has only copied LiveWallpapers.apk... I can't say if it's still copying. The iPod is saying Obtaining IP address, but the WiFi icon is still showing.
EDIT2: No, it has disconnected again :(. I'll try and copy ONLY the market app...

Here is how I get Gapps and Market worked.

1. Download "Froyo bugless beast v0.5" from here (http://www.droidforums.net/forum/bugless/82857-rom-stable-bugless-beast-v0-5-android-2-2-frg22d.html)
2. Unzip the package and remove Launcher2.apk, Superuser.apk in /system/app
3. Transfer all files in /system/app to your device using adb, just like in the first post of this thread. Reboot and setup as usual.

* You may get some errors, but don't worry. Skip/Ignore it all.
* Remove duplicate apps if you want.

4. Download v0.1 from here (http://www.droidforums.net/forum/bugless/50333-old-rom-do-not-use-update-available.html)
5. Unzip the package and remove Launcher2.apk, AdobeFlashPlayer.apk, Superuser.apk in /system/app
6. Transfer all files in /system/app to your device using adb.
Transfer /system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar to your device
Reboot.
This time, Setup Wizard doesn't run.

7. Follow this guide (http://www.slatedroid.com/eken-m002-android-tablet-discussion/3644-finally-my-market-works-download-apps.html) to get a unique Android ID
* You don't have to memorize the ID. Just pull the accounts.db file.

8. Transfer accounts.db to your device
adb push accounts.db /data/data/com.google.android.googleapps/databases/

* You may have to run this command twice to get it transfered

9. Reboot

Now, open Market app and sign in with your google account. If you're lucky (as I am), everything will be OK.

Surprisingly, that last set up instructions kind of worked for me.  I was able to get the apps on the idroid but still have an issue connecting.  I'm thinking that this is the larger issue at least in my case.  I can connect to wifi and even adb over wifi.  However, the phone is not using the wifi to successfully connect to the internet.  For example, the web browser times out.  I think if I could connect to Google then I could sync, I'm just not connecting.

Any suggestions?

I tried installing this using the new Froyo 2.2 from HERE (http://www.idroidproject.org/forum/announcements/idroid-2-1-released-installs-openiboot!) but it leaves the device unbootable. In other words, it keeps repeating the ANDROID logo over and over but never boots into the system.

Has anyone had any success using another tutorial or by changing something in this one?

It's really buggy since the best way to have Google Apps is to have them installed already and not through some hacks like this guide.

However, we are not authorized by Google to do that. It's also illegal to do that unless Google gives permission.

then adb into your device and run
Code: [Select]
./adb shell
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
exit

then....

Code: [Select]
./adb push app /system/app

wait for everything to be copied over
then...

Code: [Select]
./adb shell
chmod 6755 /system/app/SetupWizard.apk
reboot

once you are back into android go through the setup and gapps should be installed.

is it possible to execute these commands on the device itself, without ADB, using some shell on idroid?

So i switched back to iOS, and created /private/var/sdcard using ssh.
Then I could download the .apk file, open it and install it (using the built-in android installer).
After that I tried again to add my google account, and it just worked.

I thought it was because of the sdcard folder, but maybe it's also because I installed some app (it was fring, btw).
Or maybe it was just good timing with google servers...

I hope it helps.

Do you mean that....
I should first create a folder /private/var/sdcard  and put the .apk into it?
And then it will be automatically installed?
actually, I dont understand what @YUNK mean....><
Can anybody show me graphically....><?

Pushing the contents of /system/app (minus flash and launcher2) across from Bugless Beast Froyo 0.1 on iDroid 1.0.5 installed via Bootlace on an iPhone 3G repeatably gives me a hang on the android bootsplash. Is there any variation which does work?
