Release: iX - Ubuntu for the Apple iPhone 3g, dev. image
« on: July 31, 2010, 10:56:56 PM »
I'd like to introduce iX, a port of the Ubuntu operating system to the Apple iPhone 3G (Working on 2G now). At the moment this is only a very rough and basic development image and is in no way intended for use as even a secondary OS for the iPhone but I'm making it available for those who want to give a try or even help develop iX. For more information and download links, please go to www.ixproject.org.

James.

Grats on getting this done finally!

It will be interesting to see how some useful applications run on the phone.

Also your link to the rar file on the blog needs to be fixed.

i get a message

when i try to load from openiboot...

The simple openiboot donot work. Use this: http://idroid.nickpack.com/openiBoot/0.1.2-02cc1bd-3G.zip
I installed the iX and i think that will do, but i have a question: i want to boot the ix without pc so how can i do this? i would like to choose iX in the openiboot.

Thanks for reply and sorry for my bad english.

Simply replace the android images and kernel with the ones from iX.

Simply replace the android images and kernel with the ones from iX.

for example: rename initrd.img.gz -> android.img.gz
                                  ix.img           -> system.img or cache.img ???

Please write a tutorial, because i dont know.

Thank you,
and sorry again for my bad english...

So if you want boot ix from the openiboot menu: copy the initrd.img.gz (the firmware inside) and zImage file to /private/var/idroid folder, and rename initrd.img.gz to android.img.gz . Last copy the ix.img to private/var folder
