Guide to making G app work (Market/Gmail/GoogleTalk/Youtube)
« on: April 28, 2010, 08:38:21 PM »
Files needed:
- http://developer.htc.com/adp.html > Download the Image Packages > Android 1.6 > Recovery Image > signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip
- installer.sh (ubuntu version in the attachment below)
- installer.sh (mac version of the script here http://http://www.idroidproject.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=104&start=20#p904 - thanks to chibone)
- your own system.img
- ubuntu/mac os x (someone help me port to other os)

Place signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip, installer.sh and system.img on the Desktop
Open up terminal, and cd to Desktop.

Type "sudo su" without the quotes and key in your password.
Now type "sh installer.sh" without the quotes and press enter

The script will prepare the "system.img" for you.
After the script have finish executing, load the system.img to /private/var

Boot up into ANDROID.
IMPORTANT YOU MUST CONFIGURE YOUR PHONE TO CONNECT TO YOUR WIFI ROUTER NOW!!!

After connected to your wifi router, open up signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip that u downloaded earlier
extract out SetupWizard.apk in system/app

Connect to your phone via
> adb connect XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:5555

after connected successfully go into adb shell and remount the system as read-write
> mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

exit the shell and push the SetupWizard.apk to /system/app
> adb push SetupWizard.apk /system/app

connect back to the adb shell and change the permission of the file
> chmod 6755 /system/app/SetupWizard.apk

after u have done with pushing the file, just open up ur browser and make sure there is an active internet connection
as we are going to setup the google id.

open up gmail(market/google talk might work too but i tried using gmail)
you will see the setup wizard, complete the wizard and it verify ur account

after that you should be able to run Market, this should fix all the G App that is in the OS.

P.S: I'm not good at writing guide, please correct me if there is anything not good enough  ;)

Ok I will try this method as my method is unstable for the time being.

To save the file, click nitestarzz's link... it will popout as "file.php" save it as "installer.zip" (you may have to choose "all files" in windows instead of "PHP file")

This should be on the wiki. If you want, I'll put it on there for you and rewrite it to a more user-friendly format (hey you did say you weren't good at writing guides :P). Thanks for this. I tried for two days straight to get it to work, and I really got frustrated when I hit server errors after getting so far.

Maybe uploading the system.img (without the firmware binaries) would also help since the wiki has a good guide on how to install the binaries.
My method is longer and crazier. I also used different market files from the one on the HTC recovery image (the one on the image crash more times).
I can upload a system.img (without the firmware) under the "ddominator method".
I hope someone can upload the system.img (without firmware) under the "nitestarzz method"

Yeah, I'm experiencing a lot of crashing. Now I'm simply getting a black screen. Personally when I tried it I used AOSPGbits but those only got me as far as server errors when launching marketplace. I have a feeling they were related to a lack of SDcard though...

Mine working now but  I have to put SetupWizard.apk to the system.img first and then put the system.img to the iphone /private/var . It's still a bit laggy but working.

Oh I forgot to mention that once you put the files in, the first time you're running android (or if you are already), do the following.

1. Go to Settings -> SD card & Phone storage
2. Factory data reset
3. Reset phone
4. Draw your unlock pattern
5. Erase everything
6. The iPhone reboots, go boot Android (don't forget to hold the Home button for a few seconds).

Don't worry, it doesn't really erase all your data (weird I know).

I'm still in progress of finalizing my system.app for 0.1c release.  Aside from Gmail, GoogleTalk, Youtube, Market, Calculator, Email, Google Maps, Voice Search and Voice Call (both not working), I've included a Contacts fix.  Yes you can now sync from Gmail contacts...

It's a little buggy/slow a few minutes after startup so just wait 1-2 minutes after it boots before doing anything.

Could someone post a revised and simpler form of the directions? I am extremely new to this whole thing and I have no idea as to what I am doing...

Alex is writing a simpler guide as nitestarzz admitted he's not that good in making guides (but he's extremely good in development).
