Enabling Ringtones in iDroid
« on: November 18, 2010, 11:49:40 PM »
NOTICE: This Tutorial was simplified from a more complicated version.  Special Thanks to ddominator for bringing it up, as I was going by personal experience.

This Tutorial will guide you on installing/activating Ringtones in iDroid 1.0.3, using the sdcard emulation to achieve this goal.  Please let me know if there is any confusion regarding this tutorial, and I'll do my best to help you.

1. Download the ringtones here

2. Extract the contents to a directory you can easily get too.

3. Using your favorite program to SFTP into your iPhone, create a folder called audio inside your /private/var/sdcard folder, then transfer the 4 directories you extracted earlier to that directory, while preserving the directory structure.

INFO: These files aren't as picky about their file structure as the iDroid image files are, so using scp is not necessary, as the files will be readable regardless (Unless of course the transfer fails. :P)

4. Boot into iDroid, then hit the Menu button at the bottom, then Dev Tools, Media Scanner.

5. Once Media Scanner says finished, check your Sounds menu under Settings, and you should see ringtones in your selection :)

Topic stickied... but wouldn't it be easier if someone would just upload a zip file of the ringtones/audio ogg files, then extract and copy to the sdcard folder?

No need for Ubuntu or something that supports loopback system.

Didn't think of it that way, I was just going by what I did personally to get ringtones to work for myself, and that was the full-proof way of me getting it to work. I'll see if I can create an archive of the ringtones and upload them here. :)

what do you mean.by the way if i make I new dir in /sdcard/ that is named audio
and put a .ogg file in it it still don't shows up at the ringtones settings
shouldn't just a .mp3 work like it do in a htc and make it (set a ringtone) via the
musicplayer

This seems simple enough however it didn't work for me.  When i boot into idroid now I keep getting a "phone process error" and it just keeps popping up asking me to force close the process.

*EDIT* in second though this may not have been the cause.  Once i removed the folders I'm still receiving the same error.

*EDIT 2*  So got that issue taken care of however this still dosent work for me.  placed the 4 folders directly in the sdcard folder.  ran media scan.  No ringtones show up in settings>Sounds>Ringtone.  Some of the files show up in Music app but there various UI sounds.  I can select any file from the music app and make it the ringtone but the ringtones dont show up there.

*EDIT 3* I'm an idiot. i didnt read the part where you said make a folder called audio.  Trying now

*EDIT 4*  didn't make a difference.  still unable to get the ringtones working.

i think i know your problem, and i have the same one:
try renaming the folder you made from 'audio' to 'media'.
this should work according to http://www.idroidproject.org/wiki/FAQ
im going to check right now

EDIT: also, make sure its in the sdcard folder, not in sdcard/Android

You need to place all audio files (ex. ringtones, notification, ui sounds), in the /sdcard/audio folder, preserving their folder structure, then go to Dev Tools > Media Scanner, and perform a scan, wait for it to say Media Scanner has finished scanning, then go to your Audio settings, and the ringtones will be there.  There's no need to set any permissions, as "everyone" will have read rights already, and that's basically all you need.

Topic unstickied (people don't read it anyways :( )

Anyways as nickpack tweeted on Jan 6:

2 plus points about gingerbread over froyo on the iphone - ringtones bug is gone, built in sd emulation :)

That means this tutorial will not be needed when the gingerbread port is out/once its properly working.  No ETAs ok, there's still a lot of stuff to fix.  But this will still be here for reference and educational purposes.

UPDATE MAY 22: Gingerbread has been released for a long time now and this bug is gone. Topic locked.
