Trying manual install of iOpenBoot, a little help please.

Hi all,
I have an iPod touch 1G jailbroken with PwnageTool 3.1.x, installed Bootlace, installing iOpenBoot gives the error "Install failed. Firmware could not be retrieved from Apple" as mentioned in some other posts on here, It seems manual install is the way to go.

Running through steps for Linux (Ubuntu 32bit) it fails.

iPod in Recovery mode:

sudo ./loadibec openiboot.img3
./loadibec: error while loading shared libraries: libcurl.so.4: cannot open shared object file: Error 40
So, what am I missing and what do I need to type into terminal?

you need curl installed, which you dont have

Thanks, that did it. Sorry, I'm a linux noob, so had no idea what that meant, even had to google "how do I install curl on linux" 

So...the next bit, I select terminal on the iPod, press home, wait 2 seconds and enter sudo ./oibc
Tried 1, 2 and 3 second delay. Is it just trial and error, it eventually works?

Each time I get the OpeniBoot ASCII art on the ipod (instructions suggest I should see it in the linux terminal?)
and in the linux terminal I get:
