iPhone 3G won't turn on
« on: November 30, 2010, 08:26:57 PM »
I think I might have really messed up my phone. I installed OpeniBoot and iDroid today on my iPhone 3G (4.0.2? - jailbroken with either Redsn0w or Pwnage). I tried out Android and didn't really like it so I rebooted my iphone. It went to the OpeniBoot screen with three icons (iOS, Console, and iDroid). I tried clicking on iOS, but it didn't work so it went to the Console instead.

I really wasn't sure what was going on. A bunch of lines of code kept coming up. Eventually they stopped and I thought my iPhone had frozen. I plugged it in and then it said something about the USB being connected.

I would have done a hard rest, but the problem is my top power button does not work. So I decided to run the battery down and I thought that after my iPhone completely died when I plugged it back in, I would have another shot at choosing to boot into iOS. But after it died and I tried plugging it back in, nothing happens. My computers won't recognize it and the iPhone won't power up at all.

Can anyone help? I think I might have bricked my iPhone. If I get the power button fixed, will I be able to preform a hard rest?

Thank you for your help.

Did you have a previous iPhodroid Installation?

http://www.idroidproject.org/wiki/Recovering_from_iphodroid#OpeniBoot_Issues

The problem is that a previous iPhoDroid changes OpeniBoot to remove the choose OS menu, that's why it directly goes into the text mode.

You would need the OIBC tools from http://idroid.nickpack.com

If you do not want to do the above, there's always DFU restore: http://www.idroidproject.org/wiki/DFU

I never installed iPhodroid. I tried installing OpeniBoot and iDroid through Cydia last week, but it wouldn't work. Tried the updated version today and it did work.

And the phone did not boot up directly to the Console. It first went to the OpeniBoot screen and I might have selected the Console. I just didn't know how to get out of it so I drained the battery down.

Thanks for the help though.

Cool.

Actually if you get into the console mode, if you have oibc, you can reset with the command "reboot"

Maybe I'm not being clear.

I only got into Console once. After that I let the battery die and then I plugged it in. Now nothing happens and the iPhone just has a blank screen. How do I get my computer to recognize the iphone or how do I turn my iphone back on?

Oh... yeah you weren't that clear.

DFU restore? http://www.idroidproject.org/wiki/DFU

Connect it to iTunes while in DFU. DFU has a black screen but will be detected by iTunes.

As I mentioned in the first post, my power button is not working. Is there any way to put the iPhone in DFU mode without it? I would have done that a long time ago, but the top power button is broken.

Is the screen by chance a brown colour? If so, plug it into the mains and leave it for a bit
