I've got a 32gb 3gs with original 3.0 on it bought on launch day. I'd love to help in any way that I can. I have some basic cpp skills and have been hacking the iphone since the hardware unlock.I also have full intention on getting the new iphone next month so I can provide data there as well if need be.
Besides the new bootrom jailbreak coming for all devices, now with the cydia downloaded installer coming soon "flashing OpeniBoot from userland is coming soon. " so even without a bootrom exploit, you'll still be able to do it in userland. My contracts running out soon, I want iDroid on an iPhone 4 too.I know i know ..Take your damn time

In fact, the install will even fail if you don't have an untethered jailbreak. But hopefully the bootrom exploit recently found applies to iPhone 3GS as well, and hopefully it sparks some interest in porting to the device.
Shows how much i know. Worst part is that I have the old bootrom and I still have nothing. I really wish I could get involved myself. I know some objective C and Java. Any tips? Pwn me in the right direction

I actually have an old 3GS lying around... my friend found it on the ground while walking home one day. That being said, it's a bit broken (the vibrator function doesn't work, the backlight doesn't turn on, and the front glass is cracked) but everything else works perfectly. It's currently running iOS 4.0 with the old bootrom. Would it be of any use to one of the devs?
