iPhone 3Gs with old-bootrom possible?
« on: July 18, 2010, 10:01:05 AM »
Hi All,

I was browsing trough and i found some 3gs stuff in the openiboot nightly builds: ... Firmwares/ (bottom 2 rules) ... ipsw.plist ... ipsw.plist

Is there a port going on for the 3Gs or is this just preparing for a port?
I would love to see openiboot on the iPhone 3Gs since its faster than the 2G/3G i think openiboot and idroid would run very nice on it.
I understand that it has to haven an bootrom exploit but the iphone 3gs with old-bootrom has the bootrom exploit right? i have an 3Gs with old-bootrom so it sould be possible to upload OpeniBoot into the bootrom right?

So thats why i started this topic is there an alpha/beta build of openiboot for the 3Gs or is it still waiting to be ported?

Greatz Frank.

Nice, just posted part of the same issue over in the General Discussion forum. Although no one's responded to my post yet, my understanding of the situation is this: the main reason that a 3GS iDroid hasn't been released is the lack of a bootrom exploit. Naturally, for those few lucky who bought a 3GS before Apple ramped up their apphole level again are currently in the clear for that. I believe hardware compatibility is currently an issue in the 3GS openiboot (from an older post), so don't expect anything you try to upload to work spectacularly well; that said, it may boot perfectly (depending on their progress). I believe the issue with iDroid on the 3GS is currently that there is little driver support for the 3GS (again garnered from an old post) within the current modded linux / android kernel (this is precisely what I asked about elsewhere). Hope that helps
