No iPod Touch 3G?

Hello,

I'm totally new to all this Linux/Android on iPhone stuff and would really love to see it running on my iPod Touch 3G. But have I got it right that there is no way to get it running on the 3G by now since its incompatibility with OpeniBoot? What do you think, will it eventually be possible to iDroidify the iPod Touch 3G? Is it a matter of days, weeks, or even years?

I don't think they'll port it tell there is a full jailbreak for the ipod touch 3G,i don't know how it would work on a tethered jailbreak .

Unfortunately there is a little more to it than just an untethered jailbreak, though that will certainly help for people with the new bootrom!

There is an untethered jailbreak for iPod Touch 3G now (even works with 3.1.3) called Spirit. Unfortunately, since it is based on a security issue, it will most likely be rendered useless by Apple with the next OS release. So my hopes for an iDroid release for my iPod Touch probably won't be fulfilled that soon. *sigh* Bummer!

I think the biggest problem "droidifying" the ipod touch 3g is the openiboot.img3 and the ibec.i tried to install it on my 3g and it works up to the command:./loadibec openiboot.img3.
so i think thats the problem.if anyone knows an work around or else,please post it!

guy i just read in the iphone 2g section that spirit jb never works with openiboot.spirit jb activates after the xnu kernel and openiboot has to run before xnu.     someone knows a jb for 3.1.3 ipod touch 3g(not downgradeable)?

A usable hole has been discovered afaik, will not be released until 4.0 comes out though.

the problems with installing the idroid is the openiboot which cannot install unless on a full jailbrake not ones like geohot which replaces the minimum spirit jailbrake also does not work with idroid

problem for oib is that the iboot isn´t "hacked" which doesn´t allows us to run unsigned code before apples iboot.... :cry:  :cry:  :cry:  :cry:  :cry:

Now that there is an untethered jailbreak, people can SSH into their devices. The only problem with compatibility is the unavailability of the openiboot images. I am currently working on it for the 3G, and my goal is to put Android on the iPod. But there may be an issue with how planetbeing compiled the iDroid release, making the iPod touch incompatible. This can be fixed by creating a new release for 3G, which may be rather hard to do, but do-able.

Forwarding should not be that much of a problem, because the hardware is similar for the devices.

If you're talking about Spirit, then I'm sorry to have to inform you that, since it is a userland exploit, and not an LLB or bootrom exploit which would be necessary in order to actually replace iBoot with OpeniBoot, it isn't usable to us. For the record though, if an iBoot exploit was found (much more likely than an LLB or bootrom exploit) we would be able to tether-boot Android.
