iPod Touch 1G / alex's kernel - iPod Touch 1G flavour!
« on: May 23, 2010, 07:11:23 PM »
Starting my own brand of kernel :D

What it contains
* Backlight
* Accelerometer (with dario's stuff: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=755)
* ADB over USB (check wiki guide : http://http://www.idroidproject.org/wiki/ADB_over_USB)
* Speed!
* Replaced LCD fix for those who need it
* ddominator's touchscreen stuff
* All the other goodness in the other releases

Pff, speed, I don't believe you!
Don't. No one's forcing you to :P. Personally I've had boot times of less than 40 seconds with this kernel :D

Enough of the chatter! I want it!

Grab the iPod Touch 1G .rar from there^^
http://cydia.portx.eu <-- add that to Cydia and find the kernel in the iDroid section
Current version: 0.6

This will not do! I am a developer, and I want sources!
Sure: http://http://github.com/alexandred/kernel_common

Credits
* doku - told me a little thing about I/O scheduling that brought the speed up :D
* alex - for the compile :P
* nickp666 - hosting for all!
* #iphonelinux as usual

General discussion / Replaced touchscreens
« on: May 19, 2010, 01:12:16 PM »
Two people in the IRC have recently reported their touchscreens not working in android, despite them having all the correct firmware i.e they should work. Waleed told me it used to work in android on his iPhone 2G, the screen cracked and he replaced it, resulting in it no longer working in android. leonh told me he has a refurbished iPod Touch 1G and couldn't get the touchscreen to work in the latest commit of the ipt1g kernel (I have a feeling the screen was replaced in the refurbishment process). The fix I have pushed to my github account worked for both of them, and can be found here: http://http://github.com/alexandred/kernel_common/.

Now my question is, why on earth does adding a call to readFrame at the end of multitouch_setup cause it to work for these different screens? Can any developer shed some light on this?

If anyone else out there has experience a similar problem to waleed/leonh, please post here stating if the fix worked for you.

Full credit goes to waleed for the "fix", he wanted to post a guide somewhere, but didn't have wiki privileges, I offered to do it for him, ended up with some "Hardcore Forking Action" on github :p
