Can someone give me an estimate of how much of a donation the iDroid team would need to really get this project off the ground?
Maybe you could set a donation goal and a java donation counter to encourage consumers and supporters to chip in.
Until reading this thread i wasn't aware of what software/hardware you were lacking. It would be a good idea to set up newsletters and shout out emails.

It has been done, back in the iPhone OS 1.x days even, hehe. Performance was horrible though, and we were emulating Windows 98@sjorge

Qemu may cross-compile but I didn't try. Performance would be horrible too.
I did read something about bochs but never played with it.
I may actually give that a whirl later tonight but I'm not expecting much from it performance wise.
Edit: Bochs sort of works, but only at iphone resolution. And it's pretty slow, to the point it's not usable.. I suppose the iPad or iPhone 4 might be powerful enough to emulate Windows 98 or something.

I retract my previous choice.
I would like this.
sleep = power off
single short press home = home
long press home = menu
double press home = back
vol up / vol down = vol up / down.
mute is an extra one (configurable).
This method would benefit everyone. (easy to use, works with all models including itouch etc...)
I also found that there is a button remapper app on android.
Would that work for idroid, or is it translating the presses on a more fundamental level?
