Getting started installing Android on Iphone 2g 8GB

by bqw371 » Fri Aug 06, 2021 3:13 am

First off, thanks for the great resources. My biggest thanks go to the guys/gals who have contributed to this project to make installing the Android OS on the iPhone possible. All who will offer help, my thanks go to you as well. This experience wouldn't be possible without my cousin Dan who gave me the Iphone 2g ; thx bud, you're the best even if I did trick you into punching yourself in the face that one time we were drinkin'! =) Really though, thx everyone.

Ok,
This thread is dedicated to my own personal installation of the Android OS on an Iphone 2g.

I've been reading up on installing the Android OS for a few days and wanted to get started.
Obviously the software used to accomplish the job are constantly being updated so much of what I have read in articles from April-July are out of date already.. How time flies in technology...

Anyhow, here's where I am starting.

What I want:
The most recent version of Android installed on the Iphone 2g.
(at this time being Android 2.2 Code Name: ddFroYo2G, yes, no, maybe; what was the question again?)

Currently have:
Iphone 2g 8GB; Firmware 3.0 ; Thx Dan! and Apple...
JailBroken probably a year ago but I don't remember which tool (or PC) was used ; Thx for the JailBreak tools Dev. Teams!
Itunes: so that I can upgrade to firmware 3.1.3 ;FU Apple for not allowing music/apps installed any other way.
NAiDroid2G-29072010_1100-win ;Thx to creator(s) listed @: http://www.idroidproject.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=389

" Things to note: " section @: http://www.idroidproject.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=389&start=0

PC OS: Win 7 Ultimate ; Thx MS
iPhone 2g 3.1.3 firmware: Linked to from: http://www.redmondpie.com/download-ipho ... e-9140418/

tltr; A lot of shit has to be installed to get this working...damnnnnnnnnnn

iDroidproject.org ;Thx for all of the support

You don't need 3.1.3 to run android. 3.1.2 for 2g works fine.
I've sold my soul to Google.
I'm running my iPhone with the better OS (Android 2.2).
I'm using Google Chrome instead of MSIE and Firefox.

On iPhone 2G 3.1.2 with Android 2.2 (ddFroYo2G)

Thanks for the info. As I've finished downloading firmware 3.1.3, I had planned to use Sn0wBreeze
http://ih8sn0w.com/index.php/welcome.snow to create a custom 3.1.3 firmware per this guide:
http://www.redmondpie.com/sn0wbreeze-3.1.3-jailbreak-iphone-3g-3gs-3.1.3/ (as it says iPhone 2g is supported) BUT Sn0wBreeze compatibility shows:
Jailbreak the iPod Touch 2G, iPhone 3G, and 3G[S](old bootrom/New bootroms running 3.1.2).

After a bit more research, I've found that RedSn0w 0.9.2 supports:

http://wikee.iphwn.org/howto:rs9#what_devices_platforms_and_fw_versions_are_supported
*
All iPhones and iPod touches (still a tethered-only JB for late-model devices though)
*
Apple firmware 3.0 and 3.1.2
*
Windows and Mac OSX (x86 only for now)

EDIT: Ended up using sn0wbreeze 1.5.2 downloaded from: http://www.mediafire.com/?zmynidw22m3
mirrors: http://www.techhail.com/iphone/download-sn0wbreeze-3-1-3-to-jailbreak-iphone-3gs3g-with-3-1-3-firmware/3209

EDIT: Install ddFroyo22 now after doing all the below...

Make sure the 'auto lock' is set to 'never' under general/settings or NAiDroid2G will fail when phone locks.
Verified WinSCP will SSH into the Iphones IP address w/ username 'root' password 'alpine' port 22.

NAiDroid2G-29072010_1100-win failed with error:
[ERROR: MTPROPS-0] Error transferring iPhone.mtprops!

maybe becase share folder is listed as: share.61EJxW ?? Sorry not sure which app was used to JailBreak originally...

Created custom 3.1.3 fw w/ sn0wbreeze 1.5.2 downloaded from: http://www.mediafire.com/?zmynidw22m3
mirrors: http://www.techhail.com/iphone/download-sn0wbreeze-3-1-3-to-jailbreak-iphone-3gs3g-with-3-1-3-firmware/3209
Followed guide:
http://techpp.com/2010/02/05/download-sn0wbreeze-to-jailbreak-iphone-3g-3gs-3-1-3/

Launched Itunes, turned the phone off, connected the USB cable & turned on (into recovery mode) by holding both the

sleep (top) and home (circle) buttons until the apple logo appeared. At that point, released the sleep (top)

button but continued to hold the home (circle) button until the Iphone USB cable picture showed up on screen.

But when attempting to sync with itunes, receives message:
itunes have detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes.

If I click OK, the Iphone disappears from itunes.

Ran the following as script itunes.ahk (with autohotkey installed from http://www.autohotkey.com ) to close the Ok button without Itunes making the Iphone disappear...Maybe not needed? Dunno I was tired and it closed the dialog without itunes making the phone disappear..

;;;;;;;;; save in notepad as itunes.ahk
settitlematchmode, 2
winclose, iTunes, iTunes has detected
;;;;;;;;;

Clicked on the iphone in the itunes sidebar and then pressed and held left “Shift” key on the keyboard and then

clicked on “Restore” button (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) in iTunes and released the “Shift” key when a

window prompted to locate the FW file that Sn0wbreeze had dropped on the desktop.

After install and phone restarted then the phone only wanted to make an emergency call and shows foreign

languages...hrmmm it does show the new logo though...
Had to let it pop up in iTunes & then I assigned a new name instead of restoring the previous backup...as i don't

need the previous setup or want it to sync w/ previous data.

Turn off auto lock again. Reconnected to wifi.
Installed cydia essentials, APT 0.7 strict & openssh (no spaces)

ddFroYo2G & OpeniBoot installed successully.
Booted into the OS successfully!!!! Took a minute to figure out that the power (top) button scrolls through the OpeniBoot menu.

Thanks!! Can't wait to do some testing!
