Overview
Here you will find an overview of the different installation methods and guides available for installing iDroid, an Android distribution using iPhoneLinux. There are a few different options for installing iDroid. We highly recommend that you use of the recommended methods however. You can also install iDroid using one of the unsupported installers.
Before beginning, please take a look out our DISCLAIMER.
Recommended Methods
These methods are known to work and as such will be supported in the forums.
NOTE: If you have previously installed iPhodroid (not supported at the moment), please read the Recovering from iphodroid guide. There may be some problems in installing iDroid that can be remedied by the said guide.
Bootlace Installation
The easiest way currently to install iDroid is using Bootlace.
Manual Installation
These guides explain the manual installation and setup of iDroid. Since Bootlace can install everything for you, the guides below are for archival and educational purposes.
- For installing from a Linux system, follow the instructions on the Linux Guide.
- For installing from an OS X system, follow the instructions on the OS X Guide.
- For installing from a Windows system refer to the Linux guide but run Linux under a Virtual Machine. If you plan to use VirtualBox, please read this guide first.
For those who simply want to install OpeniBoot for other supported distributions like iX or PSFreedom, please refer to the Installing OpeniBoot Guide.
Unsupported Methods
Note: We cannot provide support for the installers listed below as some contain modified OpeniBoot/iDroid images or otherwise closed source in a way that we do not know how they function. Please contact the author of the application for support.
iPhone 2G
- NAiDroid2G (Nitestarzz Automated iDroid Installer for iPhone 2G) by nitestarzz - An automatic installer for iPhone 2G for Linux and Windows systems.
iPhone 3G
- SUCCA (Speed up Custom Creation of Android) Installer by scognito - A script for helping build the latest (un)official kernel/images compiled from users (big thanks to Noltari), and to help save time automatically downloading needed files as well as creating needed ones.
iPod Touch 1G
- iPod Installer iDroidInstall by kdb424 - Simple script that installs iDroid to an iPod Touch G1 from a Linux /Mac OS X machine. It installs the most recent version of iDroid, only leaving the install of open iBoot for the user to do. Firmware and sdcard creation are also done in this install if the user wishes.
iDroid Releases
Official releases are known to be the most stable releases available.
Post-Installation Concerns
- Refer to the User Manual on how to use iDroid properly.
- Check the FAQ.
- Search the iDroid forum for a solution to this problem or start a new thread.
- Ask for help in the #iphonelinux IRC channel on irc.osx86.hu.
- If all else fails, you can always uninstall iDroid.
Extras
- DISCLAIMER: You should test your iDroid install on your iDevice before using this section as some builds of iDroid include these fixes.
- ADB - ADB or Android Debug Bridge is the main way to communicate and change files on the Android system.
Apps
- Reboot_(Software) - Read here about restarting Android properly.
- Swype - This is for installing the Swype virtual keyboard.
- Guide to making GApps work on Android 2.2 Froyo (Market/Gmail/GoogleTalk/Youtube) - Use this guide if you want to get Google applications working on Android 2.2 Froyo.
Fixes
These fixes are already implemented as of release version 1.0 (MoJo) and are no longer needed. If you are still using an old version of iDroid (0.1a or 0.2), then I suggest you upgrade immediately. These are still listed for educational purposes and archiving.
- Root Access - When you try to gain super user access by typing 'su' into the terminal emulator or through ADB you will get "Permission Denied" without this fix. This fix is required in order to implement several of the other fixes.
- DNS Fix - Go here if you can open up the web browser, but can't go to any websites.
- Sound Fix - Try doing this fix if you have no sound. (Note: This is for iPhone 2G users only; Asound.conf for 3G is very different.)
- SD Fix - This is for enabling SD Cards on your iDroid. (Note: This is only a system link and not true SD card emulation)
